The Lagos State Government has rescued a mentally ill woman accused of causing disturbances within a residential area in Agege.

Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, confirmed the intervention in a statement shared on his verified X handle on Friday.

According to him, officials from the ministry’s Rescue Team swiftly responded after receiving reports from residents and successfully evacuated the woman from the community for medical evaluation and rehabilitation.

The government’s action followed a viral video circulating on social media, which showed a visibly distressed resident appealing for urgent help over the woman’s alleged violent behaviour.

In the video, the unidentified speaker claimed the woman, who reportedly resides at No. 31 Adedosu Street, Agege, had been throwing stones into homes and threatening residents with dangerous weapons, including a machete and knife.

The video sparked widespread concern, with many Lagosians calling for immediate government action to ensure the safety of the neighbourhood and provide care for the mentally challenged individual.

Responding to the situation, Commissioner Ogunlende confirmed that the woman had been safely taken to one of the state’s designated care centres.

“She has been taken to one of our centres for care.
I urge the public to continue reporting similar incidents requiring government intervention. We remain committed to ensuring social stability and protecting vulnerable persons across Lagos,” Ogunlende stated.

He also reiterated that the Sanwo-Olu administration is determined to maintain public safety while upholding the welfare of all residents, particularly those in vulnerable conditions.
