The Lagos State Government has announced the successful installation of the final Ductile Cast Iron, DCI, pipe in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project, marking a major milestone in the state’s drive to expand access to clean and potable water.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday, describing it as “a significant step forward” in the delivery of sustainable water infrastructure for Lagos.

According to Wahab, the Adiyan II Water Project, upon completion, will provide approximately 70 million gallons of potable water daily, substantially improving water distribution across the state.

He wrote: “Good news from our water infrastructure front! The last DCI pipe (pipe no. 944) has been successfully installed yesterday, October 24, 2025, a major milestone in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project.

The 8km transmission pipeline has now reached Akute, bringing us closer to delivering an additional 70 million gallons of potable water per day to Lagos residents once completed.”

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rebuilding and expanding Lagos’ water network to meet the needs of its rapidly growing population, stressing that the Adiyan II Project reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for sustainable urban development and improved public welfare.

He added that the project forms part of the state’s broader water infrastructure initiative aimed at bridging supply gaps, reducing dependence on boreholes, and ensuring equitable access to safe drinking water across all communities.
