Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the recruitment of 1,400 additional officers into the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC, also known as Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI.
This was confirmed in a statement shared on the official X handle on Wednesday by Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources.
According to Wahab, the decision, endorsed by the State Executive Council, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance environmental enforcement and promote a cleaner, healthier, and more organised Lagos.
“The Governor @jidesanwoolu and the State Executive Council have approved the recruitment of an additional 1,400 officers into the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI),” the statement read in part.
He noted that the recruits would strengthen the state’s capacity to enforce environmental laws, prevent indiscriminate waste disposal, curb street trading in restricted areas, and promote responsible waste management across all communities.
“With this expansion, we are reinforcing our commitment to a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos that prioritizes public health, safety, and environmental sustainability,” Wahab added.
The commissioner emphasised that the recruitment drive aligns with the administration’s broader vision to ensure cleaner public spaces and improved environmental standards throughout Lagos State.
