Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Friday inaugurated a newly built Divisional Police Headquarters in Epe, Lagos State, a project donated by Hon. Olawale Raji, who represents Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at Oke-Oyinbo, Epe, the IGP described the facility as a significant milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to modernise its infrastructure and strengthen community policing across Lagos State.

Egbetokun, represented by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh Olohundare, announced the official upgrade of the Epe Police Station to a Divisional Headquarters, a move expected to enhance operational efficiency, improve response time, and deepen police-community relations in the area.

He commended Hon. Raji for his foresight and dedication to public safety, describing the donation as a symbol of true partnership between citizens and the police.

“By building and donating this modern police headquarters, Hon. Raji has reinforced the foundation of law enforcement and strengthened the trust between the police and the people,” Egbetokun said.

The new structure was named in honour of the late Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ganiyu Agbaje, in recognition of his meritorious service and contributions to national security.

Egbetokun also urged residents to take ownership of the project, stressing that the building belongs to the Epe community and was designed to serve their safety and security needs.

In his remarks to journalists, CP Olohundare said police response time in Lagos has improved significantly, now averaging five minutes, due to enhanced logistics and strategic reforms under the current police leadership.

According to him, the “Eko Strike Force” operates with 12 patrol vehicles and four armoured personnel carriers, ensuring quicker response to distress calls across the state.

He also commended Epe residents for their cooperation with the police, noting that the area remains one of the most peaceful in Lagos.

“I have never had to deploy officers to Epe for crisis management. The level of peace and discipline here is exemplary and worthy of emulation by other communities,” he stated.

On his part, Hon. Raji said he initiated the project three years ago after observing the inadequacies of the former station.

He explained that the new Divisional Headquarters symbolises the power of collaboration between government and community stakeholders.

Raji also praised the Nigeria Police Force for curbing cultism and other crimes in Epe since 2015 and announced new constituency development initiatives, including the allocation of 400 free market shops by November and the construction of four new roads within the town.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by senior police officers, representatives of other security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community members, and political associates, all of whom lauded Hon. Raji for his leadership and contributions to Epe’s development.
