The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 25 chairmanship positions in the recently held local government elections in Niger State.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) reported that the APC won 271 of the 274 councillorship seats, whereas the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) obtained just three which include two in Tafa and one in Rafi local government areas.
Announcing the results, the NSIEC Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, stated that the election was carried out in all 25 local government areas according to electoral laws and the commission’s operational protocols.
“All returning officers have finished the collation and announcement of results as per the law,” Liman said. “Following a thorough evaluation, the commission has endorsed and confirmed the results as declared.”
He mentioned that certificates of return would be issued shortly to the elected chairpersons and councillors, with relevant parties properly notified of the timetable.
The local government elections took place on Saturday, November 1, with candidates representing over ten political parties, such as the PDP, Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
