Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has reiterated the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the military to ensure the safe return of 25 students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, GGCSS, in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
The governor made the remarks on Friday while meeting with the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, who visited the Government House in Birnin-Kebbi with senior military officials.
Idris praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for swiftly directing Matawalle and top security personnel to Kebbi to oversee the rescue operations.
He also disclosed that soldiers assigned to the school reportedly withdrew at around 3:00 a.m., with the abduction occurring shortly after at about 3:45 a.m. The governor called for a full military inquiry to determine who authorised the troop withdrawal and prevent similar lapses in the future.
Minister Matawalle confirmed the deployment of top military commanders in Kebbi, including the Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Brigadier General Idris Warra.
He added that troops have been stationed at strategic points across Kebbi, Zamfara, and Niger States to block possible escape routes and hasten the rescue of the abducted girls.
The minister urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure the students are safely returned.
