The Edo State Government has returned 2,950 plots of land to 1,550 persons whose property was demolished at Oke-Oroma Community in Oredo Local Government Area by the previous administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

DAILY POST reports that the property was returned to the owners in fulfillment of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s electioneering promises to the affected residents.

The property was demolished by the administration of former Governor Obaseki in the community on September 21, 2022.

The State Commissioner for Land and Housing, Hon. Yakubu Musa, disclosed this on Friday, January 23, 2026, while issuing letters of reallocation of the lands to the verified property owners in Benin City.

Musa said the beneficiaries had submitted all relevant documents for verification before receiving allocation letters to reclaim their land.

According to him, following Governor Monday Okpebholo’s approval to return Oke-Oroma Community land to the rightful owners, the Ministry commenced a one-week exercise to authenticate the true owners of properties in the community.

“The exercise is to restore hope to the 1,550 people who had lost 2,950 plots of land at Oke-Oroma Community.

“As we distribute the reallocation letters to beneficiaries, surveyors have started working on the land to physically demarcate the plots, while bulldozers are already clearing the plots. By next week, the plots will be returned to the genuine owners.

“The governor had promised during his election campaign that if elected, he would return the land to the rightful owners, and that process has already commenced.

“This exercise demonstrates that Governor Okpebholo truly loves the Edo people, as he ensured justice is served for the residents of the community,” he said.

Speaking to newsmen, some of the benefiting property owners, including Mr. Adebayo Benjamin Ogenelkhemeh, Mrs. Onose Onyegbulem, and Efe Kennedy Ewemade, commended the governor for keeping his promise to return their land.
