Security operatives in Gurugram, Haryana State in India have arrested two Nigerians over an alleged online impersonation scheme that reportedly swindled company workers of about 10 lakh, equivalent to N15 million.
The suspects, Ojo Uyiosa and James were taken into custody on January 31 at Nathupur village after operatives of the Cyber Crime East police station carried out a technology-driven investigation.

Police said the case unfolded after victims reported suspicious transactions, prompting investigators to track digital trails connected to the fraud. Findings showed that the suspects allegedly masqueraded as company directors, reaching out to employees through WhatsApp and persuading them to send money on the pretext of urgent official needs.

Authorities said the funds were transferred into a bank account controlled by the suspects, taking advantage of the employees.

Items recovered during the arrest included two mobile phones and three SIM cards, which police believe were used to execute the fraudulent transactions.

Further checks revealed that Uyiosa entered India in 2014 on a student visa, while James arrived in 2023 on a tourist visa. During interrogation, police said Uyiosa confessed that the duo had obtained nearly 10 lakh from victims, with the proceeds paid into a Bandhan Bank account.

Investigators also disclosed that at least two earlier cybercrime reports had already been traced to the same bank account.

The suspects were arraigned before a Gurugram court on Monday, February 2, 2026, where they were remanded in police custody for three days to allow investigators to expand their probe.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, with efforts focused on establishing whether the suspects are linked to other cyber fraud incidents.
