As attention begins to turn toward the 2027 general elections, former federal lawmaker Farah Dagogo has called on Nigerians to engage the electoral process with a heightened sense of responsibility.
He emphasized the importance of electing leaders whose policies will enhance living standards and promote national growth.
Dagogo, who represented Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, urged voters to be intentional in their decisions by carefully assessing the promises and track records of candidates, especially those seeking re-election.
He noted that the calibre of leadership that emerges will largely reflect how critically voters evaluate their options at the polls.
Drawing a connection between civic responsibility and the current spiritual period, the former lawmaker observed that the concurrent observance of Ramadan and Lent offers a meaningful opportunity for introspection and ethical consideration.
He described the overlap as both symbolic and instructive as the country approaches another election cycle.
In a statement released by his media aide, Ibrahim Lawal, Dagogo also extended goodwill to Muslim and Christian faithful, praising their dedication to fasting, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal.
He encouraged Nigerians to apply these virtues to their roles as citizens.
“I celebrate with Muslims and Christians on this rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent at the beginning of an election cycle. It underscores a profound spiritual dimension that should guide our national choices,” he said.
He further stressed that while spiritual observances are important, Nigerians must place greater emphasis on competence, accountability, and integrity when selecting leaders, adding that deepening democracy depends on voters aligning their moral values with their choices at the ballot box.
