The Zamfara State Police Command has announced improvements in the security situation across parts of the state, noting that residents of several communities earlier displaced by bandit attacks are beginning to return home.
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the progress is the result of sustained security operations and collaboration between the state government and the judiciary which ensured the prompt prosecution of numerous suspected bandits and their informants.
According to him, the police also adopted a strategy of engaging community leaders before deploying mobile police personnel to previously abandoned areas, thereby encouraging displaced residents to return and rebuild their lives.
He cited Zebri community in Maradu Local Government Area, near Shinkafi, as one of the areas where nearly 10,000 people who fled due to insecurity have now resettled.
Another example, he said, is Peggen Mahi, where more than 10,000 residents displaced in 2025 have also returned following the deployment of anti-kidnapping units supported with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) provided by the Force Headquarters.
The police spokesperson further noted a remarkable reduction in kidnapping cases, particularly along major highways in the state.
“Prior to May 2023, the command recorded over 10 kidnapping incidents monthly along routes such as the Tsafe axis. Currently, such cases have become rare,” he stated.
Abubakar commended the Zamfara State judiciary for accelerating the trial of suspects, adding that the development has contributed to restoring public confidence and strengthening security efforts across the state.
