A Community Health Officer (CHO) and five other people have been killed by bandits, while a primary health centre was set ablaze in Yarkatsinan Laka community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubaksr, in a statement issued on Thursday, said a large number of armed bandits, riding on over 50 motorcycles and carrying sophisticated weapons, invaded the Yarkatsinan Laka community.

The Command spokesperson said, “The Police Strike Unit responded swiftly and engaged the assailants in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of 11 armed bandits, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.”

The statement noted that during the exchange of fire, two police personnel and three civilians lost their lives.

It further explained that one police officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

Normalcy, according to him, has since been restored, as he called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance effective policing.
