Flutterwave clarifies reports of $75m IPO investment by Nigerian govt

Flutterwave has responded to media reports regarding a supposed $75 million investment by the Federal Government of Nigeria, as well as suggestions of a near-term IPO.

The company said that while some reports may reflect evolving discussions or interpretations of broader engagement, they do not correspond to any formally executed or disclosed transaction.

In a statement, Flutterwave clarified that discussions referenced in earlier reporting relate to potential private investors’ capital participation, such as a Series E or similar pre-IPO positioning.

“These are typical steps for scaling companies and are distinct from a public listing,” it noted. “Any future IPO would be subject to a range of factors, including market conditions, regulatory readiness, and long-term value creation.”

Flutterwave said it regularly engages with a broad range of institutional and sovereign stakeholders regarding strategic participation aligned with long-term economic and ecosystem development goals.

Such engagements, the leading fintech infrastructure platform added, are a normal part of building globally competitive companies and do not necessarily indicate finalized transactions.

Acknowledging the strong interest in its growth and plans, Flutterwave advised the public to rely on official disclosures, as ongoing discussions or market signals can sometimes be interpreted in different ways.

Flutterwave continues to operate at scale across multiple markets, playing a significant role in enabling payments and economic activity throughout Africa and beyond.

The company has over 50 licenses with technology reach in 34 countries and has processed over $50bn across more than 1 billion cross-border transactions, contributing to global commerce and remittance flows.

Flutterwave, which serves customers like Uber, Airpeace, and Piggyvest, recently announced the acquisition of Mono, a leading provider of open banking infrastructure, and also a microfinance banking license in Nigeria.
