The Nigerian Defence Academy has said it has concluded plans to conduct its 2026 Annual Range Classification Exercise for Nigerian Army personnel serving at the academy.

It therefore warned residents of communities close to the academy not to panic when they hear the sound of gunfire.

In a statement by the Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Reuben Kovangiya, on Monday in Kaduna, it said the exercise would hold from May 4 to 9 at the NDA Open Range, Afaka, adding that the academy had put in place all necessary safety measures to ensure a safe and successful exercise.

He advised residents of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya, and the Afaka general area to avoid trespassing or moving close to the range throughout the duration of the exercise.

“The general public is hereby advised to stay clear of the range area for their safety,” he said.

The statement appreciated the continued cooperation and understanding of the public and conveyed the assurances of the Commandant of NDA, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, on the safe conduct of the exercise to residents.
