Group Says Both Men Paid Sacrifices To Restore Democracy In 1999

LAGOS — The Movement for National Reformation, MNR, has congratulated Chief Ayo Opadokun on his 80th birthday, describing him as a patriot who fought alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, to restore democracy in Nigeria.

Celebrant: Sir Ayo Opadokun

In a statement made available to Sahara Report and signed by General Secretary, Dr. Philip Idaewor, MNR said Opadokun, former NADECO National Secretary, and Tinubu were key figures in the struggle against military rule.

“His role in the pro-democracy movement and as a leading figure in NADECO remains an enduring part of Nigeria’s democratic history,” Idaewor stated.

The group said both men paid personal sacrifices to defend the people’s mandate and lay the foundation for the Fourth Republic that PBAT now leads.

MNR also noted Opadokun’s lifelong advocacy for an “equitably restructured Nigeria.”

“We salute his resilience and wisdom. We pray God grants him more years to guide the nation toward a just, united, and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement added.
