Muslims in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State have held prayer sessions in a quest for rainfall.

The prayers were held on Saturday following a prolonged dry spell in some parts of the LGA, resulting in the wilting of crops.

Muslims in the early hours of Saturday converged on various Eid grounds in Hong and sought Allah’s divine blessings.

They offered two special prayers in total submission to Allah after days of voluntary fasting, repentance and supplication over the drought.

At the Central Eid Ground in Hong, the Chief Imam in the area, Saidu Garba, who led the prayers, urged Muslims to refrain from any acts that could attract Allah’s anger.

The Executive Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Aliyu Saad Yerima Hong, was among those who performed the prayer.

Daily Post reports that any prolonged drought in Hong will have a telling effect on agricultural production in Adamawa State, as Hong is a major crop-growing centre.

Crops such as maize, groundnuts, rice and beans are grown on large tracts of land in the expansive LGA, where former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, owns several large cotton farms.
