Northern youths have told politicians in the region to allow the gentleman agreement on rotation of power to flourish.

The youths further cautioned the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against what they described as efforts to circumvent the rotational presidency arrangement for the sake of individual political ambitions.

In a statement issued by Sama Musa, National Chairman of the Northern Youth Frontier, the youths indicated that substantive discussions were already underway with political figures and relevant stakeholders throughout the northern region in preparation for the 2031 election.

Musa stated: “There are meaningful consultations presently ongoing with prominent leaders and intellectuals across the North ahead of 2031, underscoring that the region constitutes a steadfast and foundational component of the nation with considerable political acumen.

“We maintained that the North is in no rush to prematurely interrupt power sharing and fully endorsed waiting until 2031 for the next northern presidential term. We have no problem whatsoever waiting until 2031. Power rotation in Nigeria is structured to rotate between the North and the South, not personal ambitions.”

The youths criticised politicians from the region who have been elected candidates for the presidential election, accusing them of attempting to sow discord among patriotic citizens to advance their personal political interests.

They highlighted that the presidency is rotated among regions, not individuals, adding that those individuals do not represent the entirety of the North.

They reiterated that 2031 remains the designated turn for Northern Nigeria as a collective region, cautioning that no individual’s personal ambition will be permitted to undermine the unity and political balance of the nation.
