The Peter Obi Media Office has accused state governors of plotting to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that Nigerians will resist any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the polls.

The media office said no amount of electoral manipulation, intimidation or political manoeuvring would prevent Nigerians from exercising their democratic rights and choosing their preferred leaders.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and signed by its spokesman, Indris Zekeri Jnr, the office cautioned governors against pursuing political strategies aimed at retaining power rather than earning the confidence of the electorate.

Reacting to what it described as covert moves by some governors to compromise the electoral process, the Peter Obi Media Office insisted that any election that failed to meet the standards of freedom, fairness and transparency would be rejected by Nigerians.

It stated, “Regardless of their fraudulent efforts, they are presenting a poor product, and Nigerians will select the best option available in the market.”

The media office further condemned what it described as growing desperation among some governors, accusing them of prioritising electoral manipulation over delivering good governance.

According to the statement, leadership should be earned through service and public trust rather than preserved through deceit, intimidation or interference with democratic institutions.

“Leadership is a privilege earned through service; it is not a mandate to retain power through deceit, intimidation, or interference with the democratic process,” the statement said.

It added that Nigerians were increasingly dissatisfied with leaders who had failed to meet their expectations and were determined to use their votes to demand political change.

The Peter Obi Media Office described the 2027 general election as a defining moment for Nigeria, expressing confidence that voters would use the opportunity to reclaim the country through the ballot box.

It warned that attempts to frustrate the people’s democratic choices would not permanently succeed, stressing that no level of political intimidation or electoral manipulation could erase the collective will of Nigerians.

The statement also reaffirmed the office’s support for former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as the preferred choice of many Nigerians.

It argued that Obi represents a stronger political alternative because of what it described as his competence, capacity, character, compassion and commitment to national development.

The media office expressed confidence that Obi possesses the leadership qualities required to address Nigeria’s challenges and restore the country’s dignity, prosperity and hope.

“The mandate rests with the people. Nigeria must function again, and it will be OK,” the statement concluded.
