Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has petitioned the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police over the demolition of a property linked to his political support group in Birnin Kebbi.
Malami, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate in the state, is seeking legal redress over the incident, which he blamed on political opponents.
The property, located at a commercial layout along Sani Abacha Road, reportedly housed the Malami Pressure Group, a political support organisation.
In a statement, the ADC Director of Strategic Media, Research and Policy Analysis, Abubakar Bello Abdullahi, said Malami was shocked by what he described as an act of lawlessness.
He alleged that the demolition was intended to provoke Malami and his supporters into taking actions capable of threatening peace in the state.
Abdullahi said Malami had directed his lawyers to establish ownership of the property, seek legal redress and demand compensation for the destruction.
The party also appealed to its members and supporters not to take the law into their hands, assuring them that it would pursue the matter through appropriate legal channels.
However, the Kebbi State Government denied involvement in the demolition, describing allegations linking the administration to the incident as false.
In a statement, the governor’s media aide, Yahaya Sarki, said the claims were being circulated by opposition elements to create a misunderstanding between Governor Nasir Idris and Malami.
He urged residents, particularly politicians, to disregard reports suggesting that the government ordered the demolition.
