Several persons have reportedly sustained injuries after an Akwa Ibom State Transport Corporation, AKTC, bus conveying supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to welcome President Bola Tinubu crashed in the state.

The Public Relations Officer, Road Safety Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Akwa Ibom State Command, Paul James, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

However, he said the command was yet to establish the number of casualties and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

According to Vanguard, the victims were among APC supporters mobilised to join Governor Umo Eno in welcoming Tinubu to the state.

The accident reportedly involved a bus conveying women to the airport and a security Hilux van. Both vehicles were badly damaged in the collision, leaving occupants injured and in need of emergency assistance.

A witness, Nsikakabasi Akpan, who captured the aftermath of the accident, shared a video showing emergency responders and other people struggling to evacuate injured victims trapped in the wreckage.

Akpan described the incident as a collision along Oron Road involving a bus conveying women to the airport to welcome the President and a security Hilux vehicle.

A vehicle conveying women to the APC campaign rally in Uyo today was reportedly involved in an accident.

The incident comes as President Bola Tinubu visits Akwa Ibom State for the inauguration of projects and an APC rally at Godswill Akpabio Stadium. https://t.co/IVDZQ7XKWQ
