Kogi State, once a beacon of hope and prosperity, has been ravaged by corruption and mismanagement. The erstwhile governor, Yahaya Bello, has left an indelible mark on the state’s economy, plunging its citizens into poverty, hunger, and unemployment. The most egregious aspect of this saga is Bello’s alleged involvement in an 80 billion Naira fraud, for which he has evaded arrest and is now on the run.
In a brazen display of impunity, Bello continues to access funds through his proxy, Usman Ododo, to hire Senior Advocates of Nigeria to defend him in court. This is a slap in the face of justice and a mockery of the EFCC’s efforts to curb corruption.
The EFCC must take decisive action to track and cut off Bello’s sources of funding linked to Ododo. This is not only essential for bringing Bello to justice but also for liberating Kogi State from the shackles of corruption.
The people of Kogi State deserve better. They deserve a government that prioritizes their welfare, provides opportunities for growth, and upholds the rule of law. It is time for the EFCC to demonstrate its commitment to fighting corruption and restoring hope to the good people of Kogi State.
