A civil society organisation, The Osun Masterminds, TOM, has raised concerns over abandoned renovation projects at the Osun State House of Assembly.
TOM also warned that prolonged delays were hindering legislative duties at the Assembly.
Speaking at the group’s August 2025 State of the State Address, Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, said it was worrying that more than two years after work began on the Assembly Gate and Assembly Quarters, both projects remained incomplete.
He explained that the abandoned sites posed questions about resource management and commitment to providing functional facilities for lawmakers.
He said, “Two years is a long time for projects of such magnitude to remain unfinished. The Assembly deserves better.”
The group expressed concern over the interim housing arrangements for members of the Assembly, describing them as inadequate while quarters designed for legislators continued to lie idle.
“We cannot continue to witness wasteful expenditure on temporary housing while purpose-built quarters remain uncompleted. Accountability must be demanded from the Assembly leadership and the state government,” Oyedokun-Alli added.
TOM, however, commended the state government for approaching the Supreme Court to resolve the lingering issue of local government funds adding that the step would provide clarity and enable development at the grassroots level.
The group also advised the state government to convoke a meeting of stakeholders across all political parties, faith based organisations and community development organisations to deliberate on the best way to ensure peaceful co-existence across the local governments.
It also asked the government to collaborate with security agencies to provide necessary security cover for local government employees to resume work and urged the APC to use the opportunity to settle all pending arguments on the matter in the Supreme Court.
“Convoke a meeting of stakeholders in Osun, across all political parties, faith-based organizations and community development organizations, to deliberate on the best way to ensure peaceful co-existence across our Local Governments. The events of the past months have divided us deeply, and the Governor needs to ensure that ranks are closed and peace is restored.
Collaborate with security agencies to provide necessary security cover for Local Government employees to resume work. Their continued absence from work is crippling the Local Governments and it must be stopped immediately.
“These steps, if taken, will restore the proper functioning of our Local Governments and restore the peace of our grassroots communities.
“We want to believe that the Governor is a man who is deeply disposed to peaceful coexistence and will thus do everything necessary to maintain peace in our State.
“We also advise the stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, who are the other parties to the Local Government issue, to kindly use the opportunity of the Supreme Court to settle all pending arguments on the matter. This path of legality is the only surefire way to ensure the our society continues to run like a proper human society,” it stated.
Highlighting the state of infrastructure, TOM urged urgent rehabilitation of the Ibokun to Imesi Ile road and the Ila Orangun road, describing them as critical to mobility and safety.
The group further pressed for the speedy completion of the Iwo to Ibadan road corridor and the Ilesa township road, noting that such projects would ease transport difficulties and boost economic activities.
Reaffirming its role as a watchdog, TOM insisted that the state must act swiftly to complete the abandoned Assembly projects while instituting wider reforms that guarantee transparency, accountability, and tangible relief for citizens.
