The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has raised questions over figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, CVR.
The PDP in a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo and signed by the party’s Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, expressed concern about a significant disparity between online pre-registrations and completed in-person registrations in Osun State.
The statement said INEC’s report revealed that more than 470,000 residents in Osun commenced their registration online within two weeks, but fewer than 600 were said to have completed the mandatory in-person process.
The Osun PDP described the figures as “a worrisome gap that raises serious questions about the transparency, credibility, and efficiency of the registration process”.
The party alleged that over 25,000 registrations had been physically completed at INEC centres in the state, yet the national office’s report accounted for only about 500.
“It is inconceivable and unacceptable that Osun, a state where daily averages of 1,500 to 2,000 voters complete their in-person registration, would be falsely presented with only 500 completed registrations,” the statement said.
The PDP said such contradictions “directly insult the intelligence of the electorate and dangerously undermine confidence in the commission’s preparedness for the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general election”.
The party demanded that INEC correct the “manipulated data”, publish the authentic figure of more than 25,000 completed registrations, and explain the gulf between field records and the national report.
“Anything short of this is nothing but a calculated attempt to disenfranchise Osun citizens and lay a foundation for electoral fraud, which our party and the people will never tolerate,” the statement added.
The PDP also called on INEC to provide daily reports of completed registrations, including voter card transfers, to political party representatives and civil society organisations, and to open the process to independent scrutiny.
It further demanded that INEC disclose records of voter card transfers within or into Osun State, warning that without such transparency, the process would remain vulnerable to manipulation and abuse.
“Our democracy demands openness, and Osun PDP will continue to insist on transparency in the voter registration process as the foundation of credible elections,” the party stated.
