The Imo State wing of the Obedient Movement has launched a statewide campaign for massive participation in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise in order to make a positive impact on the 2027 general elections.

The group also advocated for credible elections as it vowed to resist any move to truncate fair and peaceful transition.

Addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Owerri, the State Coordinator of the group, Vigilius Chukwuka Anukanti, said that the movement will make significant impact in the next election.

He maintained that the group is more organized and united this time to wade off anything that will not allow people’s votes to count, believing that a new Nigeria is possible.

Anukanti remarked that it is very important for people to participate effectively in the voters’ registration exercise which, according to him, will be used as a weapon to make a significant difference.

The State Coordinator informed that one of the missions of the movement is to ensure that in every polling unit across the state, an Obedient will either lead or join a voting block of at least 100 Nigerians.

He pointed out that the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is not just a piece of plastic but a power to influence positive outcomes.

“We call on every committed Obedient in the state to immediately register on Obedients.Com and create their voting bloc.

Your duty is to recruit members, track their PVC status and prepare your bloc to vote as one united front in 2027.

“We will go door to door, reaching out to every community in the state, using our fliers, megaphones and community influencers to spread our messages.

“We will engage market associations, religious centres, youth groups and unions.

“We will arrange transportation to help people get to INEC registration points because a new “Nigeria is possible only when every citizen has the power to vote,” he said.

Anukanti hinted that in the next general elections, the electorate will be voting for a new vision and that the movement will be recruiting 1,500 value-based leaders nationwide to run for office under the Obedient platform.

The State Coordinator used the moment to call on competent and compassionate individuals in the state with the desire to serve to step forward and be part of the new vision.

He further informed that the movement has created a catchy phrase, GO MERD, meaning Get Organized, Make Election Rigging Difficult, saying that the phrase was coined to establish the power of the electorate in electoral contests.

“The path from frustration to transformation is clear. We can save Nigeria by making election rigging difficult. Together, as one organized, determined and powerful force, we the people of the state will prove to the world that a new Nigeria is possible,” he added.

Commenting on the political platform the movement will use in contesting the 2027 general elections, Anukanti narrated that in line with the position of its presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, the movement is still in the Labour Party while watching what will be the outcome of the coalition process.
