The Edo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and killing of a 12-year-old boy identified as Emiliano Egwunbare in Obagie community, Egor Local Government Area of the state.

DAILY POST reports that the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued in Benin City.

Ikoedem listed the arrested suspects as Tega Emajuwa, 18; Edugie Destiny, 20; and Osayande Vincent, 23.

The police spokesperson, who alleged that the suspects made confessional statements linking them to the crime, said they were arrested by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, Benin.

She explained that they were apprehended following sustained tactical and technical intelligence.

According to her, the tragic incident occurred on September 16, 2025, when the young boy was allegedly kidnapped by suspected abductors while in the community.

ASP Ikoedem stated that the case was initially reported at the Ogida Police Division and later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, Benin, for discreet investigation.

She added that the suspects, who were charged in court for prosecution on October 16, 2025, have since been remanded.

“Sadly, during the course of investigation, the victim’s body was later discovered inside a well in the Obagie Community. The remains were evacuated and deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy”, she said.

The command dismissed as untrue a viral video circulating on social media in which the mother of the deceased alleged that the suspects involved in her son’s case had been released.

“The Edo State Police Command wishes to categorically state that this claim is false, misleading, and unfounded.

“The suspects remained in lawful custody until they were charged to court on 16th October 2025, where the case is currently, while they have all been remanded for prosecution.

“The said mother of the deceased was present in court during the proceedings”, she added.
