Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal has claimed that the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election was rigged.

Speaking in an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Lawal said, “structures are used to rig elections; structures are used to defend votes at the polling units.”

His comments follow the conclusion of the election, in which the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

When asked whether he had been involved in rigging elections for the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the party’s victories in the 2015 and 2023 general elections, the former SGF responded: “Some people probably rigged, but the level at which I was involved in the presidential election, our candidate is such that would tolerate rigging.
