The US has said that its military operation against Iran could last between four to six weeks.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said this on Friday, adding that the US is making good progress in taking control of Iranian airspace.
Leavitt said the US would see Iran as being in a state of “unconditional surrender” once Donald Trump decides the country is no longer a threat to the United States.
She told reporters at the White House,”What the president means is that when he, as the Commander in Chief of the US military, decides that Iran is no longer a threat to the United States and the mission of Operation Epic Fury has been completely successful, then Iran will basically be in a position where they have to give up everything without any conditions, even if they don’t say it themselves.”
Trump stated on Friday that the only way to stop the joint US-Israeli attack, which started seven days ago, is for Tehran to surrender without any conditions.
The US president once said the war might last about four to five weeks, but it could also last much longer.
Pete Hegseth, the defense secretary, said the U.S. operation will keep going for “as long as it takes” to reach its goals in Iran. He said yesterday, “Our timeline is ours and ours alone to control.”
Leavitt spoke before a meeting between Trump and major defense contractors today.
She told reporters at the White House that the U.S. has enough weapons to handle all its needs in Iran.
She said the US is considering several possible people who could lead Iran, but she did not share any specific information.
“I know there are a lot of people that our intelligence agencies and the U.S. government are watching, but I can’t go into more details about that.”
