A public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over recent remarks suggesting that some enemies are trying to remove him by fuelling insecurity in Nigeria.

In a post shared on his verified X handle on Thursday, Shehu dismissed the president’s claim and said the real problem lies within the government itself.

“You are your own enemy,” he wrote.

Shehu accused the administration of pursuing policies that, in his view, do not reflect the realities Nigerians are facing.

According to him, “Your economic policies lack human consideration.”

He stressed that many citizens are struggling under current conditions.

He also criticised the president’s political approach, describing it as highly divisive and provocative.

He added that the pattern of resource allocation under the administration is too sectional, biased and discriminatory.

Shehu questioned the country’s democratic practices under the current leadership.

“The way you practise democracy is strange even in the animal kingdom,” he said.

He further alleged that constitutional breaches have weakened accountability.

He said the way you violate our constitution makes every other offender innocent.

Shehu raised concerns about government spending and borrowing.

“The way and manner you incur expenditure and debt compel many to begin asking whether you truly have Nigeria at heart.”

He also accused the government of ignoring the voices of citizens. “The way and manner you ignore public outcry with ignominy and contempt shows your lack of respect for Nigerians,” he added.

Referring to a past remark by the president, Shehu said, “No wonder you called yourself a ‘stubborn politician’.”

He went further to reject the idea that external forces are behind Nigeria’s security challenges.

“Please carry your cross alone. Your claim of enemies working against you is imaginary and self-manufactured,” he said.

“Insecurity is real in Nigeria. Read the daily security reports on your table.”
