Osun Guber: Amotekun corps, hunters not part of election security — FPRO

The Nigeria Police, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP, Anietie Okokon Iniedu has disclosed that quasi security agencies will not partake in election security duties during Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

CSP Iniedu made this known during a stakeholders engagement meeting at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo on Thursday.

In his words, “All quasi security units like the Osun Amotekun corps, vigilante, hunters will not partake in the election security and the Nigeria Police for the purpose of the election is dealing with only constitutionally recognised security agencies

“We have spoken to them and we told them that we will not need them for the period of this election.”

The FPRO also disclosed that about 15,000 personnel drawn from both combat and tactical units of the force have been deployed to the state for the election.

He also revealed that two units of the Police Mobile Force, PMF, will be deployed to the local government areas across the state while a unit of PMF has been deployed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headquarters in Osogbo.

“As we speak, there is a Commissioner of Police attached to each local government. There is also a Deputy Commissioner of Police attached to each local government. Also, there is a PMF Commander is also attached,” he stated.

He added that four police personnel will be attached to each polling unit on election day, adding that the police helicopter and drone units are already in the state and will conduct aerial surveillance of the state before, during and after the poll.

He also urged mothers to warn their children to steer clear of all forms of electoral malpractices 

“There is a mobile court in place to prosecute anyone arrested for electoral crimes.”

He also commended al; stakeholders for their cooperation in ensuring a peaceful poll.
