A Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu has convicted and sentenced a 20-year-old man, Dauda Umaru, to seven years imprisonment for sexual exploitation.

The court, presided over by Justice Aisha Y. Salihu of Court 2, found Umaru guilty of procuring and having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl.

The offence contravened Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.

Delivering judgment, Justice Salihu sentenced the convict to seven years in prison.

The court also ordered him to pay the sum of N1 million into the Victims Trust Fund Account and an additional N500,000 as compensation to the victim.

The conviction was secured by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.
