The contractor handling the reconstruction of the 69km Abeokuta–Papalanto–Ado-Odo/Ota Road, Craneburg Construction Company, has apologised for the traffic situation along the Toll Gate and Itori–Papalanto sections, attributing the disruption to persistent rainfall.
Craneburg’s area manager, Mr Nicholas Mfarrej, tendered the apology during an interface with members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, who was represented by his deputy, Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.
Mfarrej explained that the continuous rainfall had slowed down progress and damaged portions of the reconstructed road. He, however, assured the lawmakers that the company remained committed to global standards in road construction.
He appealed for patience from both the legislators and the public, noting that the traffic congestion in certain areas had already eased. He further stated that as the dry season sets in, the pace and quality of work would improve significantly, with the project scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
On his part, the Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, said the contractor had been instructed to make both lanes motorable. He took responsibility for the recent gridlock and pledged more effective monitoring of the project going forward.
The meeting resolved that Craneburg should expedite work on the project and adhere strictly to construction standards. It also directed the Ministry of Works to ensure closer supervision to prevent further traffic congestion and to ensure full compliance with contract specifications.
