A Chief Magistrate Court in Adamawa State has remanded a 49-year-old man, Hamman Saidu of Pella Ward in Hong Local Government Area, for allegedly beating a nephew of his to death over theft of herbicides.
The Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola ordered the remand of Saidu for killing the Nephew, identified as Mark Bibulyi, after neighbours fingered him for the theft.

Presided over by Magistrate Dorcas Mavah, the court remanded Saidu and adjourned the case to the 24th June, 2026, to enable the prosecution transmit the case diary to the state Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezra Bulus, who arraigned the defendant, had earlier told the court that the deceased, according to witness accounts, went into the residence of the defendant earlier this month, on June 2, and took some packs of herbicides.

The prosecutor said the deceased was held by neigbours who informed the defendant about the incident.

He added that upon his arrival, the defendant struck the deceased with a stick, inflicting the head injury that became fatal.

The order to detain the defendant was given after he pleaded guilty to his act as read and interpretated to him from the First Information Report made to the court.
