The African Democratic Congress has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Kebbi State for the Argungu Fishing Festival, describing it as ill-timed amid rising insecurity in parts of the country.
Tinubu was in Kebbi on Saturday for a one-day visit during which he inaugurated projects and attended the festival, which recently resumed after years of suspension due to insecurity.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed concern over recent attacks and abductions in Kwara State, particularly in Kaiama and Patigi Local Government Areas.
The party referenced reports of killings and kidnappings in the state and cited a video allegedly released by terrorists regarding recent abductions in Kaiama.
The ADC said the security situation in parts of Kwara should be treated as a serious concern, noting that the Kaiama axis links to neighbouring states.
The party called on the Federal Government to intensify rescue efforts for abducted victims and strengthen security operations in affected areas, including the Kaiama and Kainji Lake forest corridor.
It also urged improved coordination among security agencies across Kwara, Niger and Oyo states to prevent further attacks.
The party said it would continue to hold the government accountable on security matters while supporting efforts aimed at addressing insecurity.
