Social media has been thrown into intense debate following the circulation of alleged private WhatsApp conversations between prominent Abuja real estate developer Engr. Stephen Achema Akpa and a senior police officer identified as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine.
The screenshots, which have gone viral across several online platforms, reveal a series of hostile exchanges marked by threats, accusations, and emotionally charged language. The conversations have reignited longstanding claims by associates of Engr. Akpa that he has been subjected to sustained intimidation, harassment, and alleged abuse of power involving influential individuals and law-enforcement actors.
According to claims accompanying the leaked chats, the police officer is allegedly linked to a circle that includes controversial social media personality Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan, VDM), Abdulrazak Aliu, Japheth, Igoche, and businessman Obi Cubana. Online commentators allege that this network was used to exert pressure on Engr. Akpa amid unresolved disputes.
Supporters of the real estate mogul further allege that the officer played a role in events that led to his arrest and eventual remand at the Keffi Correctional Centre in 2022, despite what they describe as ongoing financial disagreements involving substantial sums of money. They claim the detention compounded his financial losses and was aimed at coercion rather than resolving the matter through lawful civil procedures.
The leaked conversations also contain allegations of seized personal property, including vehicles and travel documents, as well as claims of betrayal and extortion. These allegations remain unproven, and the authenticity of the screenshots has not been independently verified.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force, the FCT Police Command, and the individuals named in the allegations have not issued any official statements in response. Engr. Stephen Achema Akpa has also not made a formal public statement addressing the specific contents of the leaked messages, although those close to him insist he has been a victim of abuse of influence and selective justice.
The development has intensified public calls for an independent investigation, with many Nigerians demanding greater transparency and accountability, particularly in cases where law-enforcement officers are alleged to have close ties to powerful private individuals.
As reactions continue to trail the controversy, the unfolding situation has renewed broader concerns about the intersection of power, influence, and justice in high-profile disputes within Nigeria’s capital.
