The African Action Congress, AAC, has rejected the results of the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election, citing alleged malpractices and electoral breaches.
The party has called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The party’s governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, also criticised the conduct of the poll, alleging widespread vote buying.
In a statement on Wednesday, the AAC’s Campaign Publicity Secretary, Chimezie Nwokeanochie, said that observations and credible reports from party agents and independent monitors across the state indicated that the process was marred by widespread irregularities, vote buying, and violations of established electoral procedures.
He urged INEC and other relevant authorities to address these serious concerns and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
“The African Action Congress wishes to express its profound dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the Anambra State governorship election held on 8 November 2025. Our observations, as well as credible reports received from party agents and independent monitors across the state, indicate that the process was marred by widespread irregularities and violations of established electoral procedures. These include breaches that compromise the secrecy of the ballot and undermine the integrity of the vote,” Nwokeanochie said.
“The AAC firmly maintains that elections must be transparent, credible, and reflective of the genuine will of the people. The anomalies witnessed during this exercise fall short of these democratic standards and have, regrettably, eroded public confidence in the process.”
The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was declared the winner by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie. Soludo polled a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes. Meanwhile, Sir Paul Chukwuma, of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, came third with 37,753 votes.
