Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has lamented what it termed selective implementation of its agreement with the Federal Government.
The union made the remark in a statement issued by its President, Professor Christopher Piwuna at the end of its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held at the Taraba State University, Jalingo.
While expressing worries over the FG’s alleged back-and-forth approach to negotiations with the union’s officials, ASUU sternly warned that continued indecision on the side of the government could have “serious consequences on the education sector”.
The union further warned that the Federal Government may face another nationwide industrial action if it fails to honour its agreements.
“We, therefore, hope that our expectations and indeed the expectations of Nigerians for a quick and holistic resolution are not dashed”, the union said.
The university teachers also criticised government officials for allegedly undermining the negotiation process, alleging misrepresentation.
“The partial payment of promotion arrears, dating back to 2017, and the release of third-party deductions were described as confidence-boosting exercises rather than solutions to the core issues”, ASUU said.
DAILY POST reports that while some non-monetary aspects of the agreement between the union and the FG have seen progress the university teachers claimed that salary and conditions of service remained unattended to.
