The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mining Marshals have uncovered an alleged illegal gold mining operation in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and arrested two suspects in a decisive enforcement action. The NSCDC said the operation, carried out in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, followed credible intelligence and a petition alleging unlawful mining activities within the coordinates of a valid exploration licence.  The Mining Marshals, in a statement, said a specialised enforcement unit was deployed to the location where the suspects were apprehended at the active gold extraction site. Elder Chidi Wihioka, lawmaker representing the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Rivers State in the House of Representatives has alleged that the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC Rotimi Amaechi is not an indigene of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state. The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo on Monday, September 14, 2026, convicted and sentenced nine persons to 10 years’ imprisonment for oil theft within Akwa Ibom territorial waters. The convicts were prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state following their arrest and handover by the Nigerian Navy on February 7, 2025. Two separate fire outbreaks in the Ikorodu and Surulere areas of Lagos State have destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has reported. The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. According to him, the first incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Adamo Bus Stop, Ikorodu, where a fire suspected to have resulted from faulty electrical wiring spread from a hairdressing shop to neighbouring shops. Abia State Government has dismissed allegations that it imposed N50,000 tax on women selling Akara  in the  streets of the state. The government also denied reports that it is subjecting school proprietors and other business owners in the state to excruciating taxations. The naira continued its appreciation against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Monday, beginning the week on a positive note. Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, data showed that the naira strengthened to N1,326.30 on Monday, up from N1,326.52 exchanged on Friday last week.
