The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, has officially announced that elections into the 27 Local Government Area Chairmanship positions and 305 Ward Councillorship positions in the state will hold on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Houthi fighters reached Perim in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Friday, as the group sought to tighten its grip on the crucial shipping route. The advance followed the withdrawal of Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces from the island of Perim, according to Reuters. Tension rose in parts of Sokoto metropolis on Friday after an Islamic cleric, Malam Musa Lukwa, was stabbed shortly after leading the Juma’at prayer at his mosque in the Mabera area. The suspected attacker, said to be a young man among the worshippers, allegedly stabbed the cleric twice in the neck before other worshippers overpowered him and killed him. The attack was reportedly connected to a sermon previously delivered by the cleric, which some Islamic scholars and their followers considered offensive to the parents of Prophet Muhammad. The Cross River State Government has indicated its readiness to compensate persons who may have been defrauded by officials in connection with the cancelled 2024/2025 local government recruitment exercise. The government also approved the recruitment of 4,000 workers into the local government service following the cancellation of the controversial exercise, which it described as fundamentally flawed and marred by alleged job racketeering and commercialisation of employment slots. Suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly killed four Mobile Policemen and eight residents in a fresh attack on Ayilamo, Tombola Ward of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. Ayilamo, located along the Abinsi-Tyulen-Anyii-Wukari axis, is a farming community that has come under regular attacks by armed bandits. A resident, Tyolumu Ugande, said armed bandits numbering more than 200 invaded Ayilamo from Alufu Road in Taraba State and advanced towards the community, shooting sporadically and setting houses on fire. The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has condemned the murder of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a public affairs commentator, at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State. Danshagamu was attacked by unknown assailants who forcibly entered his residence on Monday, 8 September 2026,  and stabbed him to death.
