President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that banditry and insurgency will be defeated in 2026 and beyond.
He urged citizens to remain hopeful and committed to peace and unity.

Akpabio made this statement while speaking at a prayer and fasting service organised in honour of the Akpabio family at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

He called on Nigerians to put aside their differences and work together for a more peaceful and equitable country.

He stressed that national progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.

“I want to wish all Nigerians a very prosperous and peaceful new year. I want to assure all Nigerians that the new year will usher in renewed peace in our country,”Akpabio said.

Speaking on security, the Senate President expressed confidence that the country will overcome its challenges, including banditry and insurgency.

He urged Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliation, to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the fight against insecurity.

According to him, renewed collaboration with international partners will strengthen Nigeria’s efforts to defeat criminal elements threatening the peace of the nation.

Akpabio, while reflecting on the significance of Christmas, said the birth of Jesus Christ symbolises redemption and hope for humanity.

He added that Nigeria would experience similar redemption from insecurity.

“For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son to be born as a man so as to redeem mankind,” he said. “By the reason of the birth of Jesus Christ, Nigerians will be redeemed from banditry and insurgency in the new year and beyond.”

He also emphasised the importance of family and unity, noting that peace at the family level contributes to peace and development in society and the nation at large.

In her remarks, the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, encouraged family members to support one another selflessly.
