Ibrahim Gambari, former Chief of Staff to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has said the former president was pained by the security situation in the Northwest and Central regions.

Gambari said Buhari was pained by his inability to do more on security before leaving office.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Gambari said Buhari did a lot by making sure that no territory was under Boko Haram.

He also spoke about the Buhari government’s legacy while he was in office.

According to Gambari: “Sadly, some cabals tend to tell the President not what he needs to know, but what he needs to hear. They exist in every government.

“The president has many sources of information, of which the Chief of Staff is probably just one of them, maybe the principal one, but not the only one.

“Don’t forget that President Buhari is only the second former Head of State to become a democratically elected president, the first being Obasanjo, whose constituency was the military.

“In fact, one of the things that pained him the most is that he was unable to do more about the security situation before he left.

“He did a lot by making sure that no territory was under Boko Haram, but the situation in the Northwest and Central regions pained him a lot.
