The Adamawa/Taraba Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized 1,868 24-litre and 30-litre Jerry cans and one 220-litre drum of contraband petrol.

The command, at a press briefing on Tuesday, said it also seized 10 bales and two sacks of secondhand clothes.

The seizures, made mostly along Adamawa Taraba international border lines, were effected within the last one month.

The items are estimated to have duty paid value of N58,117,550, according to the controller of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Tako.

Addressing newsmen at the area command headquarters in Yola, the controller said the seizures are efforts of his command to curb smuggling and protect the country.

Details of the seized items include 410 25-litre Jerry cans of petrol at the Mubi-Sahuda axis; a total of 962 25-litres of Jerry cans on two separate dates at the Fufore-Guri axis; 141 Jerry cans, 25 litres each, at the Wuro-Boki axis, all in Adamawa State; as well as 625 Jerry cans of 30 litres each in Taraba State.

The area controller indicated that the 10 bales and two sacks of secondhand clothes in his custody were confiscated at the Mubi-Sahuda axis in Adamawa State.
