The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has launched its 2026 Easter Special Patrol across Nigeria, deploying personnel and operational assets to major highways to ensure safe and smooth movement during the festive period.
According to the statement by FRSC, the operation, which runs from April 1 to April 8, 2026, is designed to manage the expected increase in traffic as Nigerians join Christians around the world to celebrate Easter.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, said the initiative became necessary due to the anticipated rise in vehicular and human movement across the country.
As part of the exercise, the Corps has identified critical routes for focused monitoring. These include the Lagos-Ibadan, Sagamu-Ore-Benin, Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Auchi-Okene, Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, Ilorin-Mokwa-Birnin Gwari, and Bauchi-Gombe corridors. Key eastern routes such as Onitsha-Asaba-Benin, Onitsha-Owerri, and Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt are also included.
According to the Corps, personnel and logistics have been strategically positioned along these routes to improve traffic flow, ensure quick emergency response, and strengthen visibility on the highways.
The FRSC said it will step up enforcement against major traffic offences linked to road crashes.
These include speeding, reckless driving and overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, tyre violations, road obstruction, and the mixing of passengers with goods.
It added that special attention would also be given to seat belt use, child restraint compliance, passengers’ manifest violations, and the use of unfit vehicles.
To strengthen compliance, the Corps will deploy mobile courts along major routes for the immediate trial of offenders, a move aimed at promoting discipline and accountability among motorists.
“To reinforce compliance and deter traffic violations, mobile courts will be deployed along major routes for the prompt prosecution of offenders,” the statement said.
“The Corps has activated round-the-clock patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by the deployment of patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and modern enforcement equipment,” the statement added.
In addition, public awareness campaigns will be intensified through National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other platforms to provide travellers with real-time updates and safety information.
The Corps Marshal assured Nigerians of the FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives and property on the roads and urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid dangerous driving habits, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
