The Ebonyi State Government has inaugurated a 15-member Peace Implementation Committee to ensure effective implementation of a court judgement on the ownership of Onyirigbo Enclave between Ameffia-Amaeku community in Ohaukwu LGA and Ulepa Ntezi community in Ishielu LGA of the state.
The inauguration exercise was conducted by the State Commissioner for Border-Peace and Conflict Resolution, Professor Paul Awo Nwobasi shortly after a peace meeting with stakeholders from the two communities in Abakaliki.
Professor Nwobasi disclosed that the state government approved the implementation of the court judgement to uphold the rule of law and ensure lasting peace between the people of Ameffia Amaeku and Ulepa Ntezi communities.
According to the Commissioner, the peace implementation of the court judgement would be supervised by the Ministry of Border-Peace and Conflict Resolution to ensure efficient service delivery.
Professor Nwobasi disclosed that the court judgement declared the people of Ameffia Amaeku community the right owners of Onyirigbo Enclave while restraining Ulepa Ntezi people from further claims of ownership over the parcel of land.
He maintained that the committee is to ensure careful implementation of the court judgement.
In their separate speeches, the Executive Chairman of Ishielu LGA, who doubles as the Chairman of the 15-Member Peace Implementation Committee, Mrs Ifeoma Agwu and the Coordinator of Ngbo Central Development Centre in Ohaukwu LGA, Mrs Blessing Alagba thanked the government for proactive adoption of the court judgement for lasting peace to reign in the area and promised to ensure effective actualization of the committee’s objectives.
Representatives from the two communities who spoke during the peace meeting include the Traditional Ruler of Amaeku Autonomous Community, Eze Peter Awoke and his counterpart from Ntezi Autonomous Community, Eze Francis Chukwu applauded to the State Government decision on the implementation of the court judgment over the ownership of Onyirigbo Enclave and promised to create conducive atmosphere for the successful actualization of the assignment given to the committee.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Border-Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mrs Theresa Anwu, has been appointed as the Secretary of the 15-Member Peace Implementation Committee and the committee was given one month to deliver Government resolution.
