A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Aondoakaa announced his resignation in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Makurdi on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before his resignation, Aondoakaa was one of the leading governorship aspirants of the APC in Benue State.
According to him, the resignation took effect from March 28 and followed what he described as careful reflection and extensive consultations with his family, political associates and supporters.
He explained that although he appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the party during his membership, certain prevailing circumstances made it necessary for him to step aside.
“While I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of the party at various levels during my membership, prevailing circumstances have made it necessary for me to take this step in the overall interest of my people and democratic values,” he said.
The former minister also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending what he described as the president’s visionary leadership and the support extended to Benue State under his administration.
“I wish to express my profound appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the visionary leadership he has continued to provide for our nation as well as for the support and attention which Benue has enjoyed under his administration,” he said, while assuring the president of his continued loyalty to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Aondoakaa further appreciated the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, for what he described as the quality leadership he has provided to the APC in Benue State.
“I acknowledge his role in shaping the political landscape of our dear state and assure him of my enduring respect,” he added.
He also thanked the leadership and members of the party in Ushongo Local Government Area, across Benue State and beyond for their support and cooperation during his time in the APC.
However, Aondoakaa did not disclose his next political move but urged his supporters and associates to remain calm, peaceful and steadfast.
“A new direction aimed at salvaging and repositioning Benue in the best interest of our people will be communicated in due course,” he said.
