The Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, PFS Kabiru Isah Jafaru, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 7:39 am on Saturday.

“We received a distress call from a timber dealer, Alhaji Abba, and immediately mobilised firefighters from various stations within the metropolitan area to the scene,” he said.

According to him, the team found that the fire had spread to several sections of the market before their arrival.

“Several sections of Kofar Ruwa Timber Market were affected by the fire, destroying 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures,” he added.

Jafaru said the firefighters eventually brought the situation under control and prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the market.
