Three persons, suspected to be behind the murder of a traditional ruler in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, were on Friday night, burnt to death by an angry mob after they reportedly confessed to the crime.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspects were alleged to have been involved in the killing of the traditional ruler of Kwallak community, Ponzhi Kwallak.

The monarch was reportedly attacked and killed in his residence on Thursday night after assailants stormed his home and robbed him of his motorcycle, mobile phone, and other valuables.

Residents said the incident threw the community into mourning and tension as a manhunt was launched for the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The three suspects, it was gathered, were apprehended while trying to sell the stolen motorcycle and during interrogation, reportedly confessed to the crime which led to the jungle justice meted out on them.

A resident, who witnessed the incident, told journalists that some youths had attempted to hand the suspects over to security operatives before hoodlums in their numbers overpowered the youths, seized them, and set them ablaze not far from the Council Secretariat.

“Members of the community caught the suspects where they wanted to sell the motorcycle and they confessed to the crime, before the angry mob descended on them and burnt them,” a resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.
