The Nigerian Labour Congress has paid a sympathy visit to Kebbi State after the abduction of students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu local government area.
NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, led the delegation to meet Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi. Ajaero said the NLC came to show deep solidarity with the people of the state, describing the attack as a deliberate attempt by enemies of progress.
In a statement signed by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kebbi State, the NLC Chairman said the labour movement stands with Nigerians and will keep supporting efforts toward peace and security.
Ajaero also explained that the visit was not a protest but “a firm stand against the politicization of national security issues.”
He added that the NLC would review its approach to help improve safety for citizens, workers, and schoolchildren.
Governor Idris thanked the NLC for the visit and praised President Bola Tinubu for sending Vice President Kashim Shettima to the state immediately after the incident.
The governor narrated how the attack happened, saying: “The military personnel stationed at the school withdrew at 3:00 PM, while the abduction took place at about 3:45 PM, raising serious concerns.”
He said there must be a full military investigation to find out who approved the withdrawal.
Idris also said religious leaders from all faiths are holding intensive prayers for the safe return of the girls.
He added that both the state and federal governments are committed to rescuing them.
