The 14th edition of the Bridge of Faith Foundation Football Tournament came to a nail-biting end on November 28, 2025, with Kenneth Dike Memorial Secondary School Awka in Anambraa state emerging as the champion. The tournament, which kicked off on October 14, saw 14 schools from across the region participate in a fierce competition for the coveted trophy.
In the highly anticipated final match, Kenneth Dike faced off against Community Secondary School Umuokpu at the Federal technical college Awka football pitch. The match was a closely contested one, with Umuokpu taking the lead in the first half through Nwude Mmaduachi’s well-taken goal, courtesy of a brilliant cross from Chisom Okoli. The goal seemed to be the result of a goalkeeping error by Kenneth Dike’s custodian.
However, Kenneth Dike refused to give up, and their determination paid off in the 89th minute when Nwokwu Chibundu scored a stunning equalizer, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The match ended 1-1, leading to a penalty shootout to determine the champion.
In the penalty shootout, Kenneth Dike’s nerves of steel proved decisive, as they won 6-5 against Umuokpu. This victory marks the school’s first trophy since joining the tournament in 2013.
Speaking on the tournament, Mr. John Izuogu, Program Coordinator for Bridge of Faith Foundation in Nigeria, expressed gratitude to all participants and sponsors, acknowledging the challenges posed by the current economic climate. “Despite the increased cost of living affecting the tournament’s scheduling, we’re grateful for the support that made this year’s edition possible,” he said.
The Bridge of Faith Foundation Football Tournament has once again proven to be a platform for young talents to showcase their skills, and the foundation’s commitment to nurturing young athletes is commendable.
