A couple abducted in Ilu Abo community in Akure North Local Council Area of Ondo State have been freed from captivity by their abductors.

The victims, Jamiu Olawale and his wife were freed after the payment of ₦5 million ransom, from an initial ₦40 million demanded by the kidnappers.

It will be recalled that the victims were kidnapped last week from their home in the community following an invasion of the gunmen.

According to a family source, who craved anonymity, “Jamiu and his wife were freed by their captors on Tuesday night, and they have since reunited with their family.

“The kidnappers initially demanded N40 million, which was later reduced to ₦12 million before agreeing to the ₦5 million payment.”

The fully armed gunmen had stormed Olaribigba Estate in the community at about 9:45 p.m. last Friday when they whisked Olawale and his wife away.

Shortly after incident which created tension in the agrarian community, residents protested and barricaded the road leading to the community, lamenting the incessant attacks and insecurity in the community.

According to sources, the couple had arrived at their residence in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry when they were attacked by the gunmen, who lay in ambush for them.

During the incident, a neighbour of the abducted couple, Patrick Ilumaro, who was seated in front of his residence, was shot by the gunmen.
