The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the resignation of its former Nasarawa State governorship candidate, Dr David Emmanuel Ombugadu, as a painful development following his decision to leave the party amid ongoing internal leadership disputes.
DAILY POST earlier reported that Ombugadu announced his resignation in a letter dated February 28, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ikka Wangibi Ward in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, stating that his exit takes immediate effect.
Reacting to the development, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hajiya Farida Umar, said the PDP received the news with deep regret but remains resolute and undeterred.
According to her, the party considers itself a political family that invested significant time, effort, and collective sacrifice during its shared electoral journey with Ombugadu, making his departure understandably difficult.
“As a political family that worked tirelessly together through challenging moments, this decision is naturally painful,” she said, adding that thousands of party members remained committed to the PDP even during difficult periods.
Umar stated that political loyalty is often tested during times of internal transition, noting that the strength of a political movement lies in its ideology, structure, and dedicated supporters rather than any single individual.
She maintained that the PDP remains a formidable political institution in Nasarawa State, built on democratic principles and grassroots support, stressing that no individual resignation would derail the party’s progress or future ambitions.
“The PDP is focused on reorganising and consolidating its structures to present a credible and widely accepted candidate capable of leading the party to victory in the 2027 elections,” she stated, urging members and supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the party’s vision.
Ombugadu began his political career under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), where he was elected in 2011 to represent the Akwanga/Nassarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He later joined the PDP in 2014 and secured re-election in the 2015 general elections.
