One person has reportedly died and seven others were injured in a building collapse in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The council chairman, Muhammad Maji Wakili Marma, confirmed the incident, saying it happened at Kanak village after heavy rainfall.

According to him, “the collapse of the building occurred after two nights of heavy downpour in the area.

“Five of the victims are still receiving treatment in the hospital, while two others have been discharged.”

He warned that more houses could collapse if urgent action is not taken to strengthen vulnerable buildings across the area.

The chairman appealed to both government and humanitarian agencies to support the victims and step up measures to protect communities from the effects of flooding and climate-related disasters.
